DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/30 November) — A foreign company is eyeing to put up a 30 megawatt solar power farm in Davao City.
Jason Magnaye, head of the government-run Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), said the city is currently looking for a 30-hectare site that will fit the topographic specifications required for the project.
Magnaye, however, refused to reveal the identity of the company, saying that everything was still at the negotiation level.
He said the company is ”definitely a private one, foreign-owned with local operations.”
”We are still conducting an inventory of possible sites based on the project’s topographic requirement and the proximity to the power grid,” he told MindaNews.
During the marathon hearing for the city’s budget for next year, Magnaye said the Marilog area is among those being eyed for the project because of its topography and its proximity to power transmission lines.
He added, however, that project proponents are still considering other areas in the city.
Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, who presided over the marathon hearing, said that a large part of the Marilog area belongs to an ancestral domain, which might pose some difficulty for the project.
Magnaye said company officials will still dialog with the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) for a possible agreement over the power rates, if the project will push through.
He said he is set to meet company officials on the second week of December. (Germelina Lacorte/Mindanews)
