BASCO, Batanes, Philippines – Four months of power outages in this island province have finally come to an end, or so it seems.
The National Power Corp. has announced that a ship with 800,000 liters of diesel fuel, which is enough to supply the province’s fuel requirements until January, was expected to dock early yesterday morning.
The entire province has experienced regular power interruption since June due to lack of funds to purchase diesel fuel. Napocor and the Batanes Electric Cooperative (Batanelco) had to borrow several drums of diesel fuel to run the government power generators.
Roland Cabitac, Batanelco president said M/V Saver II, which is carrying the fuel supply, is large enough to accommodate the province’s fuel needs in the next four months.
