Napocor awards genset contracts for off-grid areas

 (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - State-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) has awarded the contract for the supply, delivery, installation, test and commissioning of 10 units of 600-kilowatt modular diesel generator sets for its power plants in off-grid areas.
Napocor said it has awarded the gensets to Thermopower Inc., which submitted the lowest complying bid in a public bidding held last year.
The 10 units of generating sets will be distributed to the Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) plants of Napocor, which include Ticao in Masbate, Roxas in Palawan, Dinagat in Surigao del Norte, Kalamansig in Sultan Kudarat and Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi in Tawi-Tawi.
SPUG power plants are located in areas not connected to the main grid.
Under the contract, Thermopower will also deliver needed spare parts and training of Napocor personnel.
Napocor has allotted P77 million for the procurement of the gensets, which would help improve the capacity and reliability of the supply of electricity to the different SPUG areas.
Once the gensets are installed, residents can now use additional appliances.
Napocor’s program to distribute gensets is part of its 2013-2018 Missionary Electrification Plan, which serves as the blueprint for missionary electrification actions.
Other projects in the plan include rehabilitating the 43.42-km Mobo–Aroroy transmission line and the construction of the 76-km Mobo-Cataingan line, which would enhance the delivery of power in the island of Masbate.
Napocor has set aside P399 million for both transmission projects.
Aside from Masbate, Napocor also maintains transmission systems in Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Catanduanes and Marinduque.   source
