Blackouts cause delay in export of products

THE rotational brownouts being implemented by Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) have already caused delay in the delivery of export products.

Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport)-Davao Region president Ferdinand Y. Marañon, who guested in Monday’s edition of Davao Press Club's Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao, said power outages are causing delay in the production processes.

Marañon, who is also the president and chief executive officer of Sagrex Foods Inc., said that, for instance, their deliver for frozen microwavable bananas to the United States was delayed last week due to delay in production.

"Our buyer there is complaining why the deliveries were late," he said.
Marañon said Philexport is currently doing a survey among its members to be able to determine the impact of the rotational brownouts among its members.

"We are not yet able to determine the full impact of the rotational brownouts to the members since it has only been two weeks since the brownouts began but maybe after a month we might get a much clearer picture," he said.

He also said aside from delays in production and delivery of goods, the rotational brownouts is also wasting man hours.

"You are paying the workers to do nothing during brownouts," Marañon said.

He hopes that the situation will not happen again next year since it is negatively affecting the businesses. source
