In a statement yesterday, the photovoltaic solution and service provider said PetroSolar Corp., a unit of PetroEnergy, awarded the contract for the Tarlac solar power project.
The project will be built within a 55-hectare property near Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac City.
Conergy said the installation will have a plant size of 550,003 square meters and can produce 78,070 MW-hour of power per year to some 31,700 households.
“The on-ground construction of the new site will be executed in cooperation with local partner Phesco, Inc., and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016,” Conergy said.
This project will serve as the first collaboration between Conergy and PetroSolar, which is jointly owned by PetroEnergy’s renewable energy (RE) arm -- PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and EEI Power Corp. (EEIPC).
PetroSolar was incorporated to serve as the project company for the Tarlac plant, which also becomes the latest Conergy customer in the Philippines.
PetroSolar President Milagros V. Reyes said in a statement that PGEC and EEIPC continue to scout for investments in RE, which she said has huge potential.
She added that PetroSolar wants to enter the project under the feed-in tariff scheme, which will allow the developer to dispatch the electricity generated by the project at a premium rate over 20 years.
Alexander Lenz, president of Conergy Asia & Middle East, for his part said the company’s mission is to utilize the power of the sun and build greener communities that are less dependent on fossil fuels.
“For this reason, we very much look forward to working with PetroSolar... to bring this solar plant online,” Mr. Lenz said.
“This project will utilize similar solar solutions as what we’ve deployed at our other projects in the country which have performed very well and we expect this project to deliver similar success,” he added.
PetroEnergy’s portfolio of RE ventures includes a 65% interest in Maibarara Geothermal, Inc., the owner and operator of a 20-MW geothermal plant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
In the pipeline is a 10-MW expansion of this project.
Through 40% owned PetroWind Energy, Inc., the firm is also building a 50-MW wind farm in Nabas, Aklan. The first 36-MW phase of the project is undergoing testing and commissioning.
PetroEnergy is also involved in the exploration and development of petroleum resources.
The company has a 5.001% interest in Service Contract (SC) 6A; 4.137% in SC 14C2; and 15% in SC 75 -- all located in waters northwest of Palawan.
It also holds a 4.01% stake in SC 51 in waters east of Visayas; and 2% in SC 47 located offshore Mindoro.
Conergy is one of the world’s largest downstream solar companies, specializing in the design, finance, build and operation of solar systems for homes, businesses and utility-scale power.
The project in Tarlac will be the second solar farm that the German firm will build in Luzon. The first was Raslag Corp.’s 10-MW plant in Pampanga, which commenced commercial operations in January.
In Visayas, Conergy took part in the development of solar farms with a combined installed capacities of 63 MW in the cities of San Carlos and La Carlota in Negros Occidental. -- Claire-Ann Marie C. Feliciano source
