The Department of Energy (DOE) has endorsed eight more projects to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for it to undertake system impact studies (SIS), bringing the total to 24 for for the year.

An SIS is an engineering study that assesses the impact of a proposed interconnection or transmission service request on the safety and reliability of a transmission system.

The Stellar Land Dual-Fuel Power Plant project of AC Energy (ACEN) subsidiary Ingrid3 Power Corporation in Tabangao, Batangas City leads the additions with a potential capacity of 1,250 megawatts (MW). Dual-fuel plants usually feed on diesel and gas to generate electricity.

Aside from renewable energy, ACEN has diesel plant projects, such as its 150MW venture in Pililla, Rizal. The Batangas Bay coast is lined up with liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, owing to the fact that they are connected to the Malampaya gas field in Palawan. But with Malampaya’s supply running out, several firms have been developing LNG import terminals in the area.

Another AC Energy subsidiary Giga Ace 6, Inc. got the DOE’s endorsement for its 335MW Isla Wind Power Project in the Laguna-Quezon area.

GNPower Ltd. Co. received endorsements for its 1,200MW Sisiman liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant project in Mariveles, Bataan and the 600MW Kauswagan LNG plant venture in Lanao Del Norte.

The Sisiman project is near the existing GNPower Mariveles and Dinginin coal plants, which are now owned by Aboitiz Power Corporation, while the Kauswagan LNG project is located close to the existing GNPower Kauswagan coal plant, which the DOE earlier approved for SIS

Two solar projects were also added to the list, namely the 300MW Laguna Lake-Los Banos floating solar project of 5 Barracuda Energy Corporation in Laguna and the 62MWp Luntal-Bayudbod project of Verdecore in Tuy, Batangas.

Wrapping up the new additions are two battery energy storage projects. These are Camsur II Wind Energy Corporation’s 50MW project in Bay, Laguna and AboitizPower’s 42MW Pandora 2 Integrated Energy Storage Project in Naga City, Cebu.

Two weeks ago, the DOE reported that it endorsed 16 other projects to the NGCP for SIS.
