PowerTrends focuses on energy security

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading energy conference and exhibition, PowerTrends 2011, opens today with discussions by the government and the private sectors towards strategies to secure supplies of energy for a rapidly growing economy through smart and efficient use of energy, cuts in power consumption but with gains in productivity, and a mixed use of traditional and renewable sources of energy.


Energy Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras will deliver the keynote message for the two-day forum and formally open the three-day exhibition at 9:30 a.m. at the SMX Convention Center.


The event is organized by Leverage International with the support of the Department of Energy, the National Power Corp., and other energy-related agencies.


Panels of experts will present business opportunities and best practices, new technologies for renewable energy, and financing of energy and energy-related projects.


At the exhibition, global energy players will exhibit solutions for industrial, commercial and business users of energy choosing competitive energy supplies, technologies and infrastructures.

At the business forum, Secretary Almendras will be introduced by NPC president Froilan Tampinco. To act as session chairmen are former Energy Secretaries Francisco Viray, Vincent S. Perez, former energy undersecretary and executive director for ASEAN Centre for Energy Guillermo R. Balce and former energy undersecretary and National Power Corp. president Cyril del Callar.


The government roster includes heads of the Energy Regulatory Commission, PSALM, Philippine National Renewable Energy Board and BOI.


Top level executives on the private sector panel are Luis Miguel O. Aboitiz, Rufino Bomasang (NorAsian Energy and Otto Energy), Naveen Raghavan Balachandran (Vestas), Hubert d’Aboville (Pamatec), Martin Bates (Shell Phils. Exploration), Andrew Horrocks (AES Phils.), Hendrik Bohne (Conergy) and Eduardo Francisco (BDO Capital and Investment Corp.)


Joining them are Sohail Hasnie (ADB) and Paul Lazaro (DBP).


There will also be free technical sessions on energy conservation techniques for data centers, water to wire technology, green energy solutions for small industrial steam turbine, protection made simple (Woodward SEG) and tips for buying infrared camera by experts from USA, Austria, China, Singapore and the Philippines.
