LISTED Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the country’s largest geothermal power producer, expects around 6 to 8 foreign companies to bid for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the 20-megawatt (MW) Nasulo geothermal power project.
Martha Francesca de Lusong, EDC assistant vice president for business development, told reporters they will be bidding the EPC contract by next month.
De Lusong said they expect to complete the review of the bids a month after the bidding, and that they target to award the contract within the year.
“We’re targeting the Nasulo project to be operational by 2014,” she said.
De Lusong said the contract will also involve dismantling the equipment from the Northern Negros Geothermal Production Field and the transfer and installation to the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field.
The 20-MW Nasulo geothermal power plant project will be located within the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Facility in Negros Oriental.
The EDC earlier decided to move the Northern Negros Geothermal Production Facility to the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field.
De Lusong said the Northern Negros had a resource of only 5-10 MW while the power plant had the capacity to generate 49 MW.
“The management decided to move the facility in Northern Negros Geothermal Production Field beside the 20-MW Nasuji geothermal power plant at the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field,” she said.
De Lusong said the Northern Negros project is undergoing resource management and targets to complete it by year-end.
In the next five years, the EDC targets to complete the 20-MW Nasulo power project and the 40-MW Dauin geothermal facility in Negros Oriental, the 50-MW Mindanao 3 project in Cotabato, 30-MW Cabalian plant in Southern Leyte, and the 40-MW BacMan 3 geothermal power project and the 50-MW Kayabon geothermal power project in Sorsogon.
