NGCP restores transmission lines hit by Typhoon ‘Luis’

ALL transmission lines and substations by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) affected by Typhoon Luis in Northern Luzon have been restored and are now operating under normal conditions, the company said on Monday.
“As of 3:49 pm Monday, all our facilities and transmission lines affected by the typhoon were all fully energized,” NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Perez-Alaban told The Manila Times.
Perez-Alaban said there is no further threat to any NGCP facilities, citing reports from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) that the weather disturbance is already out of the Philippine area of responsibility.
She clarified, however, that NGCP’s responsibility is only to energize its facilities and transmission lines.
“In terms of bringing back power supply to areas hit by the typhoon, that is the duty of local electric cooperatives and we are not responsible for that,” she added.
She explained that although they have already opened the transmission lines, it is still up to the local electric cooperatives to restore power supply in their respective service areas.
NGCP said its systems returned to normal operations after the following transmission facilities were energized: Tuguegarao-Magapit-Camalaniugan-Sta. Ana 69-kV line servicing parts of Cagayan Electric Co. (Cagelco) I and the entire Cagelco II franchise area, and Tuguegarao-Tabuk 69-kV line servicing parts of Cagelco I and the entire Kalinga Electric Co. (Kaelco) area.
Also back to normal conditions are the Bauang-San Fabian 69-kV line servicing parts of La Union Electric Co. (LUELCO), and the Bauang-VOA 115-kV line servicing parts of LUELCO.
NGCP assured the public the company is ready to conduct similar disaster management activities to ensure reliable power transmission services.
“The corporation is continuously taking the necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of succeeding tropical storms and natural disasters on NGCP operations and facilities,” the power company added. source
