MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the country’s largest distribution utility, will unveil next week a research and development (R&D) facility aimed specifically at driving innovation and technology in the Philippine power industry.

Meralco said Power Tech will be the Philippine’s first innovation R&D and technical training facility.

“It will be an incubator for agile and globally competent energy talents capable of supporting advancements in the power and energy ecosystem,” it said.

The facility is a two-story modern, green architecture, powered by renewable energy sources, solar and wind in particular.

With a thrust for sustainable energy, the building will also utilize mostly natural lighting and ventilation.

“The Power Tech will be an ever-present proof of Meralco’s commitment to innovation and the advancement of the industry,” the company said.

The company is continuously helping the country develop the power industry.

In January this year, Meralco launched Power Lab, a multipurpose facility that can test the power consumption of appliances and gadgets.

Power Lab’s goal is to educate Filipinos on their electricity usage and energy management. source
