An all-Filipino solar company has started wheeling its generated electricity to Luzon, reinforcing the grid’s need for additional capacity especially during the high demand months of summer.

YH Green Energy Corporation, a 100 percent-owned Filipino firm, is the developer of the 14.5-megawatt utility scale solar power project at the Leisure Estate, Hermosa Ecozone Industrial Park in Hermosa, Bataan.

The company noted this renewable energy development would be its noble contribution to combating the world’s dilemma of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions triggering global warming.

“This project will make a significant contribution in meeting the power demands of the country by producing an environment-friendly energy alternative,” the developer firm said.

It specified that the solar farm has started delivering its power to the Luzon grid February 9 this year, a month ahead of the March 15 cut-off on the new installations that may be qualified for feed-in-tariff (FIT) incentives.

The project is part of the installations already due for validation by relevant government agencies on the FIT, as well as on the corresponding issuance of certificate of compliance (COC).

“After having been cleared by the DOE (Department of Energy) and ERC (Energy Regulatory Commission) as fully compliant, the facility will qualify for the FIT incentive rate of P8.69 per kwh,” YH Green Energy has noted.

The process of FIT availment shall be anchored on the endorsement that shall be stamped by the DOE – stating the commercial operation date of the plant; and has to be subsequently approved and solidified with FIT-COC by the ERC.

It stressed that the project is “a testament to the Philippines’ commitment to shift to clean energy” and will be a firm support to the government’s agenda on this sphere.

This is primarily referencing on the fact that “power generation in the Philippines is predominantly produced by coal-fired plants,” hence, the need to re-balance the energy mix moving forward.

The solar company has asserted that “the risks associated to this type of power made it urgent for President Aquino and world leaders to come together in Paris for the Climate Change conference where they collectively agreed to reduce GHG emissions by 70 percent by 2030.”

This round of solar installations had been made a race by the energy department, with the first finishers securing FIT incentive as a reward.
