Powertrends 2018 set on September 4 to 6

MANILA, Philippines — Experts in the energy industry will provide insights during the Powertrends 2018 from Sept. 4 to 6 at the SMX Convention Center. Participants will hear how energy leaders can turn to their advantage the unceasing waves of economic, social, and technological developments impacting on energy security, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
To deliver the opening address is Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi.   Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate energy committee will deliver the keynote address.
Ambassador Jan Top Christensen of Denmark and Ambassador Luis Calvo of Spain will deliver brief messages.
Powertrends, an annual event organized by Leverage International in cooperation with the Department of Energy, brings together government and the private energy industry for managing  technologies and developments that have been disrupting the landscapes for planning, designing projects, financing, investing in, building and operating long-term projects such as power plants and transmission grids.
Powertrends 2018 has six sessions:
(1) Demystifying trends in energy mix: innovation, evolution or revolution, chaired by Vincent S. Perez Jr., chairman, Merritt Partners Ltd. and a former secretary of energy.
(2) A presentation on the “Optimal capacity mix: scenario approach for the Philippines by Ville Rimali, business development manager of Wartsila.
(3) A look at the Philippine energy market: where are we now? Opportunities and Challenges, chaired by Dr. Francisco Viray, president and CEO, Phinma Energy Corp. and also a former secretary of energy.
(4) What would it take to decarbonize the Philippine energy industry?, chaired by Eduardo V. Mañalac, president, TransEnergy International Ltd.,  former president, Philippine National Oil Company.
(5) Greening the grid: integrating RE and increasing system reliability, chaired by J.V. Emmanuel De Dios, CEO, GE Philippines, and managing director, GE government affairs & policy in Asia – Pacific.
(6) Energy development: a ‘must support for Build Build Build Program of the Philippines, chaired by lawyer Jose Layug of the Puno & Puno Law, former energy undersecretary and former chairman of the National Renewable Energy Board.
Among the presentors are CEOs and senior officials of ABB, GE, Microsoft, Siemens, Hitachi Center for Technology Innovation, Mitsubishi Motors and Vestas.
