A Batangas-based subsidiary of a
Japanese timepiece maker Citizen Watch has tapped Energy Development Corp. for
2.5 megawatts of geothermal power as the push for clean energy among corporate
electricity consumers gathers steam.
EDC’s latest customer is Citizen
Machinery Philippines Inc. (CMP), which makes lathe machines at its facilities
in Tanauan, Batangas. They forged a two-year contract that kicks off on Dec.
26.
“As a manufacturing company, (CMP)
desires to be supplied by stable and low-cost electricity, especially since our
foundry consumes much power and EDC’s BacMan Geothermal Project meets these
criteria,” CMP president Akihide Kanaya said in a statement.
“At the same time, we remain
committed to give our customers the highest level of satisfaction as possible,”
Kanaya said. “This includes making sustainable contributions to society through
innovative manufacturing solutions, while recognizing our impact on the
environment.”
Kanaya said choosing to be powered
by 100-percent renewable energy supported CMP’s commitment to sustainability.
CMP’s parent firm, Nagano,
Japan-based Citizen Machinery Co. Ltd., is a unit of wristwatch maker Citizen
Watch.
CMP manufactures and assembles automatic
lathe machines, which produce other machines for use in different industries.
