Power Corp. (AboitizPower) is well on track of hitting its energy capacity of
4,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020, its top official said on Tuesday.
“We will
achieve 4,000 megawatts by 2020. There are a number of power projects lined up
for commercial operation,” Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Rubio said.
The
power firm’s current attributable power capacity is 3,200 MW, of which 1,200 MW
is renewable energy (RE).
Therma
Visayas Inc.’s (TVI) 300-MW power plant in Toledo, Cebu, will be coming on line
in April this year.
“TVI’s
commercial operation date is by April. It’s delayed. We had expected its COD
in September 2018, but plants like this will have issues,” Rubio said.
He added
that the 68-MW Manolo Fortich hydropower project of Hedcor Bukidnon is waiting
for regulatory approval.
“Once we
have GNPower Dinginin’s two units, then we can already achieve 4,000 MW,” he
said.
GNPower
Dinginin is developing a supercritical coal-fired power plant with two
identical units with a net capacity of 668 MW each. The two GNPower plants will
help the company meet the 4,000-MW target. Also, these are essential in the
company’s commitment to securing a balanced energy mix to support the country’s
energy security.
On
overseas expansion, the power firm is looking at RE projects in Vietnam,
Myanmar and Indonesia.
“We are
always on the lookout. We are open to any opportunity. The primary focus in
these areas is renewable energy. Being able to have a local partner in those
areas is critical when you go overseas,” Rubio said.
