The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) has tapped Citicore Power Inc. to develop a solar rooftop project with a total capacity of 6.64 megawatts (MW) for its locators in Mariveles, Bataan.

Citicore President Oliver Tan said the project involves the construction of solar rooftop systems that have 14,756 pieces of mono-crystalline photovoltaic panels with 450 watts power class and string inverter with 60KW capacity and can generate electricity up to 6,554 gigawatt hours annually.

This will power up 14 buildings of AFAB locators in Bataan.

“We aspire to help more businesses to harness the power of the sun and we hope other companies will follow AFAB’s example. This solar installation demonstrates that with innovative energy solutions and collaboration among partners, solar energy can provide cost-effective solutions for electricity generation,” Tan said.

Already, one of the buildings has already been commissioned, delivering power to AFAB’s locators.

The project is expected to reduce AFAB’s carbon footprint by over 9,000 tons every year.

Citicore currently owns and operates eight solar farms across the country. It plans to add 1.5 GW to its current capacity in the next 5 years.
