THE Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company (Cepalco) and its sister companies in Cagayan de Oro City will forego with the holding of its annual Christmas party celebration.
Instead of spending for the usual revelry, Cepalco instead has responded to the immediate needs of people in distress—all for the victims in areas ravaged by Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas recently.
Cepalco responded to the call of the ‘Sagip Kapamilya,’ asking for donations for the typhoon victims, and have recently sent their best men to augment trouble shooters so that electricity would be fully restored in affected areas.
Rafael Paguio, Cepalco’s senior vice president for Customer Services Division, said that the eight-man team of engineers would augment the technical group working for the restoration of electricity, particularly in northern Cebu and Panay island.
He said that instead of in lieu of the Christmas party, Cepalco has donated, through the Private Electric Power Operators Association of which the power utility is a member, P1 million for the purchase of the 100 KVA generator set to power damaged water system.
Paguio said that although he wanted to spare the children of Cepalco employees for them to enjoy the traditional once-a-year Christmas festivities, he was overwhelmed by the company’s management’s decision of not having a Christmas party this year in deference for the sad condition of the typhoon victims.
“Christmas is practically for children and I want them to enjoy and celebrate the occasion, but I saw the wisdom of my co-workers to forego with the party and we could explain to our children the reason behind,” Paguio said.
“I’m sure our children will understand as they are also aware of the circumstances through mass media,” Paguio added. source
