MANILA, Philippines - The search continues for the three miners who went missing in a landslide on Semirara Island in Antique last Friday.
Six were confirmed dead in the incident that occurred at the Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) mine site in the town of Caluya. The company is the country’s largest coal producer.
Case investigator Senior Police Officer 2 Roquito Urbina said members of a local search and rescue team were searching for Danilo Bayhon, Noel Penolla and Aryan Catulay.
The fatalities were identified as Dicson Dayupan, Bernie Manrique, Jeneroso Talaro, Alexander Nudo, Armold Omac and Ricardo Panes.
Dayupan’s body was retrieved at past 9 p.m. Friday while Manrique and Talaro were recovered at past 3 a.m. and noon on Saturday, respectively.
Five other workers – Brendo Tuarez, Nelson Villamor, Renan Entible, Patrick Morgado and Ricardo Cabrera – survived the landslide.
Villagers and families of SMPC workers have been holding vigils since Friday for the recovery of the missing miners.
Caluya Mayor Genevive Reyes yesterday announced that Antique Rep. Paolo Everardo Javier and his father, former governor Exequiel Javier, pledged P10,000 in financial assistance to each of the families of the six fatalities and three missing miners. source
