MANILA, Philippines - After
unveiling their maiden partnership in the solar industry, Manila Electric Co.
(Meralco) and Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) are teaming up for more solar rooftop
installations in three to four malls across the country, company officials
said.
RLC will invite Spectrum – Meralco’s
solar subsidiary – in the next batch of malls that are in the pipeline for
solar installations, company president Frederick Go said in an interview.
“We have a next batch of malls. Basically, we
batch our solar installations. So, right now, we’re on our third batch already.
We will invite Spectrum to look at the next batch of malls – there should be
three or four malls,” he said.
Meralco launched Friday Spectrum –
its main vehicle for solar power rooftop solutions in commercial, industrial
and residential sectors – formalizing the group’s entry into the renewable
energy space.
This is a way of disrupting
Meralco’s traditional business of power distribution by bringing in solar
technologies in the market, Meralco SVP and head of customer retail services
and corporate communications Alfredo Panlilio said.
