Despite the recurring
‘yellow alert’ incidents in Luzon grid last month, the resulting rate billed by
Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to its customers this October had just been
slightly up by P0.0345 per kWh this October.
The utility firm in a
statement to the media has noted that the overall rate billed to its
subscribers this month had climbed to P9.2836 per kwh from P9.2491 per kwh from
the last billing cycle.
It indicated that “the
slight increase this month amounts to a P6.91 increase in total bill of a
typical residential household consuming 200 kilowatt hours.”
Meralco further
explained that “the slight increase is mainly due to the P0.1777 per kwh
increase in generation charge,” but was partly offset by the cost downtrend in
other charges.
It emphasized that
transmission charge for residential customers had been down by P0.0593 per kWh;
while taxes and other charges also declined by P0.0839 per kWh” on this billing
month.
‘These lower charges
were partly due to the effect of last month’s reconciliation of the Energy
Regulatory Commission-approved refundable amount,” it said.
For the generation
charge component in the bill, in particular, this was increased to P4.7155 per
kwh this month vis-à-vis the September level billed rate of P4.5378 per kwh.
Following the
completion of its mandated refund last month, Meralco opted to file a
manifestation with the ERC on “necessary processes of reconciliation,” and this
resulted in adjustments of some charges.
