Households consuming electricity of less than 50 kilowatts per hour or those considered as “lifeline consumers” in various electric cooperatives will have their electricity consumption free from April to May, the government said Wednesday.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the “Pantawid Liwanag” program is expected to help about 3 million electricity consumers to cope with the ongoing pandemic.
Nograles thanked the National Electrification Administration, the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association Inc. and other electricity cooperatives for assisting the poor families in the wake of the health crisis.
The Department of Energy assured the public that 11,795 megawatts (MW) are still available — greater than the actual peak demand of 7,323 MW, he said.
“This means we currently have an excess capacity of 4,742 MW. We have enough supply in Luzon,” he said.
Water assured
In the same press briefing, Nograles reported that the National Water Resources Board has given the full water allocation of 46 cubic meters per second to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System from the Angat Reservoir until 30 April.
He said this will ensure the continuous supply of water in Metro Manila during the enhanced community quarantine.
