Aboitiz Power Corp. subsidiary, AP Renewables Inc. (APRI) has renewed its power supply partnership with Nueva Ecija II Electric Cooperative Area 1 (NEECO II Area 1) for another five years.
The company said the agreement which started last month, involves the delivery of 41 megawatts (MW) of electricity from renewable sources to ten municipalities within the NEECO II Area 1 franchise area.
APRI bested three other power suppliers for the competitive selection process (CSP) that started as early as March last year.
“This partnership with AboitizPower is definitely part of a continuing commitment to power the needs of the residents and businesses of the municipalities we serve while minimizing our carbon footprint,” said Reynaldo Villanueva, NEECO II Area 1’s board president.
Dennis Jordan, APRI president and chief operating officer, said biddings for the CSP during the pandemic became challenging.
“It must not have been an easy task to continue the selection in the context of a pandemic and the recent calamities but the support of NEECO II Area 1 as well as TPBAC’s (third party bids and awards committee) full cooperation have truly been instrumental in carrying out a fair and streamlined process,” he explained.
Based on the Department of Energy’s report as of October 2020, AboitizPower has the biggest share in installed generating capacity in the entire country at 4,973.4 MW equivalent to a share of 21.3 percent of the total 23,409.7 MW.
