AboitizPower promotes cleaner energy in event

(The Philippine Star) Updated November 29, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - AboitizPower Corp., the country’s largest producer of clean and renewable energy, furthered its commitment to encourage consumers to make the responsible choice through a two-day environmental awareness event held at SM Pampanga.
The company, through wholly owned subsidiary San Fernando Electric Light and Power Co., held the event that underlined the importance of choosing energy sources that would leave a lighter impact on the earth and safeguard the future generations.
One such energy source that was highlighted during the event was human energy, the purest and cleanest form of energy. This was exemplified in the Cleanergy Bike, which can generate power or charge cellular phones while being pedaled.
“We thought of a way wherein we could explain in simple terms how energy is made and how consumers can be part of the solution by making simple lifestyle changes,” said AboitizPower brand manager Ria Calleja.
A Commitment Tree was also put up wherein mall-goers could make pledges on what they could do to help protect and preserve the environment.
As early as 2001, AboitizPower launched Cleanergy, its brand of cleaner and renewable energy that leaves a lighter impact on the earth’s resources.
Cleanergy is harnessed from AboitizPower’s renewable energy portfolio that includes geothermal and hydroelectric power plants located across the country.
They include hydroelectric power generation assets that can be found in the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Isabela, and Benguet.

Recently, it also launched its Sibulan hydropower plant in Mindanao, a greenfield project that added 42.5 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and renewable energy to the Mindanao grid. One MW of energy can provide power to about 1,000 households.
AboitizPower’s geothermal energy assets include the Tiwi plant in Albay and the MakBan facility at the Laguna-Batangas border.
The San Fernando Electric Light and Power Co. makes use of both hydroelectric and geothermal energy sources in providing power to its service areas.
It is the first company in the country to use an all-renewable energy source, which comes from both the Tiwi-MakBan geothermal facilities and the Hedcor-Irisan hydroelectric power plant in Benguet.
Through Cleanergy, AboitizPower envisions a future wherein businesses and people power their activities with cleaner and renewable power.
It also envisions a future wherein companies that have chosen Cleanergy to receive recognition for making a responsible choice, and wherein customers can be part of a community of like-minded people who champion sustainable energy use, from businesses to households.
It further sees a future wherein Cleanergy contributes to sustainability projects that promote the development of new sources of clean and renewable power and more activities that encourage the use of efficient energy.
AboitizPower is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investments in power generation, distribution, retail and power services.
