THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has recently conducted a conference in Mindanao to educate power  generators about the technical aspects of the transmission industry that will be beneficial for both the generation and transmission sectors’ operations.
Discussions and presentations included grid operational highlights, the power situation for 2013 and the outlook for 2014 for the Mindanao grid, and System Operations protection requirements.
With the commercial operations of the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (Imem) already in full swing, the NGCP made a short presentation on the Imem and how the generation, transmission and distribution sectors can work together to make all the capacities in the Mindanao grid available to augment the supply of electricity.
“With proper information, relevant feedback and the cooperation of the generators whom we consider our customers-partners, we aim to ensure the continuous flow of electricity from generators to distributors. This is NGCP’s mandate and we take this job very seriously,” Cynthia D. Perez-Alabanza, NGCP spokesman, said.
“Our transmission operations affect power generation and dispatch, and vice-versa. We want to keep our generation customers informed of NGCP’s operational highlights and the efforts to improve the dispatch of available power in the grid,” she added.
The NGCP underscored the importance of smooth coordination between the grid operator and power supply providers in improving the whole power industry. It expected relevant information to translate to improved power dispatch to benefit customers and other industries which depend on power services.
Among those who attended were representatives of the Philippine Independent Power Producers Association Inc., Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, National Transmission Corp., National Power Corp., Philippine Electricity Market Corp., Grid Management Committee, Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp., National Electrification Administration and the various generation companies.
The NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations and related assets.   source
