ILOILO CITY: The good news for Western Visayas is that power sup-ply will be restored to the region this Christmas season.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the Department of Energy and the National Electrification Administration gave this assur-ance as the Christmas holidays near.
Elmer Cruz of the NGCP said some areas have been energized by the 14 units of 69-kV lines in Leyte, Samar and Panay islands.
Access to power was restored by NGCP to 13 electric cooperatives, including Iloilo Electric Cooperative (Ileco) I, II and III, Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco), Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco), Leyte Electric Cooperative (Leyeco) II, IV and V, Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (Soleco), Samar Electric Cooperative (Samelco) I and II, Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative (Esamelco), and Northern Samar Electric Cooperative (Norsamelco).
The recently energized transmission backbones of NGCP has brought power back to key cities in the Visayas badly hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda, including Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Roxas City, Capiz and Catbalogan City, Samar.
In a report to the Western Visayas regional disaster risk management council, Department of Energy (DoE) Visayas’ Ray Maleza said that as of November 28, 2013, power was restored in Ileco I areas of 15 municipalities namely Alimodian, Cabatuan, guimbal, Igbaras, Leganes, Leon, Maasin, Miagao, Oton, Pavia, San Joaquin, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, Tigbauan and Tubungan, except in far flung areas where accessibility is hard at the moment.
Already energized were 14 towns covered by Ileco 2 namely Mina, Pototan, Janiauy, Badiangan, Dingle, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, Zarraga, Passi, Lambunao, Dueñas, San Enrique and New Lucena. Restoration is ongoing in the towns of Calinog and Bingawan.
Power was restored under Ileco 3 Natividad area while ongoing restoration is conducted in San Rafael, Sara and Balasan while the towns of San dioniso and Lemery will be the next target.
Based on NGCP’s assessment, Super Typhoon Yolanda damaged more than 2,000 transmission structures of 34 transmission lines and affected 23 substations in the Visayas. source
