THREE power generating companies are eyeing to establish power plants in Davao Del Sur, an investment official said.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao del Sur investments promotion officer Ma. Victoria Placer, who was a guest during the Davao Business Forum at Dermpath at SM City Davao, identified Enfinity, San Miguel Consolidated (SMC) Power Corporation, and Aboitiz Power Corp. as the companies that have showed interest in pouring investments for power in the province.

Enfinity, a Belgian power company, is looking at establishing a 30-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in the Municipality of Hagonoy and Colorado, Digos City.

"They have already identified 10 hectares of land in Hagonoy and are securing the Land Use Conversion permit. They have already acquired the environmental compliance certificate," Placer said.

She also said SMC Power Corporation is also planning to put up power plants in Malita.

Based on the indicative projects' list of the Department of Energy (DOE), it listed three projects of the SMC Power Corporation. They are 300 MW SMC Davao Power Plant Project Phase I, 300 MW SMC Davao Power Plant Project Phase II, and 600 MW SMC Davao Power Plant Project Phase III.

AP Renewables Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz-led firm will also be exploring on geothermal sites.

The company received a service contract by the DOE last year, allowing them to conduct explorations.

Some of the present power investments in the province are the ongoing construction of the 300 MW coal-fired power barge of Therma South Inc.; Hedcor Inc.'s operational 42 MW hydroelectric power plant in Sibulan and the ongoing 13 MW hydroelectic plant in Tudaya. Both companies are subsidiaries of Aboitiz Power.
