Power supplier says Davao brownouts down to 2.5 hours

DAVAO CITY – Davao Light and Power Company (DPLC) has announced that the power situation in the city has improved over the past few days due to the operation of the one 100 MW unit of the STEAG State Power, Inc.

In a statement sent by Ross Luga, consumer relations service officer of DLPC, the company claims that starting May 12 the rotating power interruptions is down to a maximum of 2.5 hours during peak period and a maximum of 1 hour during off-peak.

The DLPC earlier announced that the power interruptions will be 7.5 hours but through the operation of STEAG it was lessen to at least 3.5 hours.

Since May 9, no interruptions have been implemented after 12 midnight to 8 am.

The possibility of longer rotating power interruptions can still be expected as power supply remains to be unstable due to the deteriorating water elevation from the hydropower plants in Agus and Pulangi and the forecasted dry season starting June.

Luga said that DLPC is exerting its best effort to reduce the duration of the interruptions significantly.

DPLC will also continue to make the necessary announcements and updates to its customers should there be any change in the duration of the ongoing rotating power outages, Luga said.

“DLPC apologizes to our consumers for the inconvenience brought about by these power interruptions which are beyond our control,” Luga added. (Cherry Mae D. Palicte) source
