EDC extends aid to LGU, NGO in NegOr amid COVID-19 threat

NEGROS ORIENTAL, April 14 (PIA) -- Energy Development Corporation (EDC) thas offered assistance to local government units and organizations in Negros Oriental in the fight against the deadly COVID-19.

EDC has allowed the provincial government to use its one unit 20-footer air-conditioned container van as swab collection area of the Department of Health, said Noreen Bautista, EDC Corporate Social Responsibility head of Negros and Mt. Apo.

Valencia town, which hosts the geothermal facilities of EDC, gets to boost its fight against COVID-19 when EDC extended assistance and donations to the municipal government.

The town’s rural health unit received 12 folding beds for its isolation facilities in Brgy. Palinpinon.

A joint checkpoint manned by barangay officials of Brgy. Puhagan and EDC security personnel is being

established to enforce enhance community quarantine guidelines within the area.

With most families having no earnings due to the ECQ implementation, EDC extended food packs to Barangays Caidiocan and Malaunay residents and use of its power sprayer placed at barangay checkpoint.

The People’s Development Council (PDC), a coalition of non-government and sectoral organizations in Dumaguete, also received cash donations from Bautista who initiated a fund-raising campaign from EDC employees.

“This generous contribution will greatly help ease the hardship of the economically displaced informal sectors in the city due to COVID-19 pandemic, “ said Nancy Estolloso, the council’s convenor. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from MPIO Des Tilos of Valencia)
