Transmission firm National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has donated additional ₱5.0 million worth of supermarket gift certificates as assistance to the government-underpinned response to the novel coronavirus health crisis.

The donation was channeled through “Project Ugnayan”, which is part of the collaborative initiative between the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and top business groups and companies as well as institutions.

This fresh round of assistance had been on top of the ₱1.0 billion worth of relief packages and medical equipment that the company had earlier committed via a correspondence to President Rodrigo Duterte.

Goods distribution on this part of the donation started last week.

The company said it extended this new round of gift certificates assistance “to continue finding opportunities beyond our previous aids to help combat the effects of COVID-19 in our country.”

It stressed that this support via Project Ugnayan “will hopefully sustain more families severely affected during this period.”

The endeavor with Project Ugnayan had in turn tapped Caritas Manila’s Project Damayan, which will then carry out the door-to-door distribution of the gift certificates – and this is in compliance to the social distancing guidelines set forth by the Department of Health.
