ORMOC CITY—An oil and gas exploration project is ongoing in San Isidro, Leyte.
Representatives of NorAsian Energy Ltd. and the Department of Energy (DOE) met with the provincial board’s committee on environment chaired by board member Roque Tiu to present their company profile.
The DOE awarded to NorAsian Service Contract (SC) 51 on July 8, 2005, situated at Sitio Kalunasan, Bant-i, San Isidro.
The company started site preparation in November last year, while the drilling will start on the third week of March 2011.
“Barring any unforeseen delays, drilling will take approximately 27 days to complete,” NorAsian executive Ruben Gaw said.
He was accompanied by exploration advisor Freddie Rilleza and drilling manager Bert Garcia. Also present were DOE representatives Roland Meneses and Russ Mark Gamallo.
Subsidiary NorAsian Energy Philippines Inc. has commissioned Desco Inc. to deploy a land rig for the exploration drilling.
SC 51 comprises two areas: onshore Leyte in the north and the islands of Cebu and Bohol in the south. Desco will drill the Duhat-1 exploratory well in Northwest Leyte on the northern block of the service contract.
The Duhat-1 well is designed to reach a total vertical depth of 1,000 meters.
The well will test the hydrocarbon potential of the San Isidro anticline “primarily in Miocene Tagnacot Formation limestone and sandstone targets” where a resource potential of up to 62 million barrels recoverable oil has been identified.
The DOE gave the go-signal to proceed with the drilling of Duhat-1 well and will satisfy the work commitment of the joint venture under the third subphase of the service contract.
