Methane gas-fired power plant cleared for operation

Manila Times.net
REGULATORS have given the go signal to renewable Hacienda Bio-Energy Corp. (HBC) to operate its methane gasfired generation facilities in hog farms in Tarlac and Bulacan.
In a statement, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said that it issued individual certificates of compliance (COC) to the three energygenerating sets of HBC.
“HBC has fully complied with the documentary requirements set by the ERC for generation companies and was found to have satisfied all the environmental, technical and financial requirements,” the ERC said.
Generation companies are required to secure a COC from the ERC prior to their commercial operations. HBC is engaged in the treatment of waste to capture its biogas contents for use as fuel in generating electricity.
It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June 2008 primarily for the purpose of providing services for renewable energy projects with emphasis on providing technical and other pertinent services for all sources of bio-gas, including small to large scale hog farms and other livestock operations throughout the country.
HBC’s generation facilities use methane gas derived from animal waste. The generating sets have an aggregate installed capacity of 500 kilowatts, and are located in Boston Ridge Farm, Tarlac and Panda Farm and Buenavista Farm in Bulacan.
“HBC’s pioneering example in turning animal waste into other productive use such as for power generation is a big step towards achieving the envisioned energy independence in the Philippines,” Zenaida Ducut, ERC chairperson, said.
HBC owns over 60 such facilities in the Philippines, 18 of which have been issued COCs to date.EUAN PAULO C. AÑONUEVO
