THE Energy Department said Sunday the previous day’s three-hour power outage was an “isolated incident,” and that there would be enough electricity for everyone in the summer.
The blackout affected parts of Quezon City including Novaliches, Commonwealth and Diliman, as well as parts of Malabon and Bulacan.
“This incident need not be interpreted as summer brownouts, but internally, within the department, we will look into this,” director Mylene Capongcol said.
National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, the private firm operating the country’s transmission network, said the blackout was due to the tripping of its San Jose substation in Bulacan.
“We had trouble with our 500-kilovolt transmission line [around 2 pm on Saturday],” spokesman Cynthia Alabanza said.
“As a result three of our four transformers tripped. The system was normalized shortly after 5:15 pm. We are still determining the cause of the tripping.” Alena Mae S. Flores
