ORION, BATAAN -- Concord Pacific Investment Holdings, Inc. (CPIH) will put up a $500-million power facility here fueled by processed waste.
Orion Mayor Jose S. Santos said that the company has already acquired a 100-hectare property in Barangay Bilolo for the power plant complex that will include housing, hospital, and leisure facilities. The project is expected to be completed in about 17 months.
“We are now in the process of securing environmental clearance and other permits,” Mr. Santos told the BusinessWorld.
The mayor said that the project could be both the solution to the perennial garbage problem and growing power supply requirements for the province of Bataan.
Jose U. Utrillo, the firm’s president and chief executive officer, said a new technology called “gasification” will be used for its waste-to-energy project instead of the usual process of incineration or burning of organic material.
“For every 200 metric tons of garbage, the power plant will produce 12.8 megawatts of electricity,” Mr. Utrillo said.
The Orion plant will serve as the pilot project as about 32 more projects would soon be established in other provinces. -- Rey Garcia
