DOE receives 69 bids for 38 coal projects

COAL developers who submitted bids for the coal contract areas might have to wait awhile before they get confirmation on whether their bids have been approved by the Department of Energy (DOE).


Energy Undersecretary Jose Layug Jr. told the BusinessMirror in a phone interview that they target to award the contracts to explore and develop 38 coal areas within 150 days from the opening of bids on Friday.


“We received 69 bids for the 38 coal areas that were offered under the Fourth Philippine Energy Contract Round [PECR-4].”


For the coal-operating contracts, Layug said they expect to generate investments amounting to P2.4 billion from the 30 coal areas.


Layug earlier said they expect around 42 coal-exploration companies to participate in the bidding of coal-operating contract areas under the PECR4.


Among the interested parties that submitted prequalification documents for coal-exploration areas that were offered by the government include PNOC Exploration, Empire Asia Mining Corp., Altura Mining Philippines Inc., SKI Mining Corp., Mincoal Resources Naturales Development Corp., Bislig Ventures Construction and Development Inc., Philex Petroleum, Mineral Exploration and Geo-Analysis Philippines Inc., Benguet Corp., KwangMing Mineral Co. Inc., Galeo Equipment and Mining Co. Inc., SJH Coal Mining Development Corp., Guidance Management Corp., MCCI Corp., South Davao Development Corp., DMC-CERI, Semirara, Romyraq Holdings Inc., South China Resources and Square Resources Holdings.


The areas are located in Quezon, Camarines Norte, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Occidental Mindoro, Negros Occidental, Cebu City, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, among others. --P. Isla
