Napocor defends Angat Dam integrity study

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – The National Power Corp. (Napocor) has defended the results of the feasibility study on the integrity of the Angat Dam, which was conducted by an international engineering consulting firm.

This developed as a US-based Filipino dam safety expert raised fears on a potential failure mode during the study and insisted that local government units prepare an Emergency Action Plan in case of an earthquake.

“There is no structural problem with the dam and the dyke, no cracks whatsoever,” Romualdo Beltran of the Napocor dam structure office said.

Beltran said experts from the World Bank conducted a peer review of the results of the study and recommendations made by Tonkin and Taylor International.

Tonkin and Taylor is the international engineering consulting company that formed a partnership with the Engineering Corporation of the Philippines. It was commissioned by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management.
