Calapan City – The transition committee of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative Inc. failed on Friday to take over the firm’s management and operation as guards and personnel refused them entry to the compound.
“We have orders from the central office in Manila of the National Electrification Administration to secure all the facilities that may be damaged by some elements as a result of takeover of a certain groups who want to take advantage of the situation,” says Ormeco General Manager Romeo N. Cuasay, who read a text message from NEA Administrator Editha Bueno.
Board president Audel Arago ordered the padlocking of the main gates of the sprawling 10-hectare Ormeco compound in Bgy. Isabel, including the putting up of barricades composed of heavy equipment such as dump trucks and heavy machineries.
“I ordered the locking of the gates. The barricade will prevent their illegal entry,” the tough-talking Arago said in a press conference yesterday.
Ormeco officials also agreed to hold a referendum set by Oriental Mindoro Gov. Alfonso Umali on February, 2014.
Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla will meet with Ormeco and local government officials, headed by Governor Umali, in Manila on Wednesday, August 27, to formalize the 2014 referendum, Cuasay said.
Cuasay said that the more than 100,000 member-consumers of the electric cooperative must be given enough time to understand the negative and positive effects of being under the Cooperative Development Authority and the National Electrification Administration. source
