The deal with a turnkey contractor has been sealed for power plant projects that will serve the electricity requirements of Busuanga and Coron in the island-grid domains of Palawan.
Project developer Calamian Islands Power Corporation (CIPC) has disclosed that it tapped Sta Clara International Corporation (SCIC) for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the planned small scale power projects in the two Palawan municipalities.
CIPC is a joint venture between Vivant Energy Corporation (VEC) and another local firm Gigawatt Power Inc.
The facility to be installed for Busuanga will be a 750-kilowatt diesel-fired plant; while for Coron, it will be an 8.0-megawatt bunker-fired power facility.
“SCIC shall be responsible for the construction of CIPC’s two power stations,” a statement to the media has emphasized.
VEC’s parent firm Vivant Corporation has qualified in its disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) that the projects were cornered by CIPC “after a thorough and competitive selection process.”
“The Busuanga and Coron power plants are expected to commence commercial operations by 2014,” Vivant said.
Project sponsor CIPC further emphasized that as early as 2011, it already entered into a 15-year power sale agreement (PSA) with the Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative.
“CIPC shall supply all of its energy output to service the electricity and ancillary services requirements of the said cooperative,” the company stressed.
Installing reliable power supply source for the off-grid areas had been among the key policy targets of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act – by opening doors for private sector players to come in as power generators or service providers in these areas. source
