The rates of Visayan Electric Company (VECO), the country’s second biggest distribution utility, had been adjusted to P1.5992 per kilowatt hour (kWh) on average from last year’s approved level of P1.4243 per kWh.
“The Commission translated the recalculated MAP (maximum average price) of P1.5992 per kWh based on VECO’s August 2012 sales mix…the overall effective rate impact from existing VECO’s rates is an increase of P0.1671 per kWh,” the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has noted in its recently-rendered ruling.
The regulator emphasized though that the approved rate was lower than what VECO had sought for in its application at P1.6898 per kWh. The Visayan distribution firm’s entry into regulatory year 2014 started in July billing cycle this year.
Based on the approved rates, the distribution charge to be paid for by VECO’s residential and general service customers would amount to P1.6965 per kWh, slightly higher by P0.1679 from P1.5286 per kWh previously. For bulk power users, the rate had been set at P0.2832 per kWh from P0.2552 in 2013; while for wholesale power users, it will be at P0.1706 per kWh from P0.1538 per kWh.
The adjusted supply charge for residential and general service customers had been set at P0.4034 per kWh; while metering charge was at P5.00 per customer/month or P0.6844 per kWh. The supply charges for bulk and wholesale users would be at P0.0433 per kWh and P0.0420 per kWh, respectively; and metering charges at P0.0226 and P0.0298 per kWh. source
