THE Iloilo City Government is finalizing evaluation within the first quarter of the year of the submitted offers by four energy corporations based on their own term of reference to put a waste-to-energy project within the dumpsite in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao.
Engr. Raul Gallo of the general services office said the City is specific on its condition that there will be no cost to the city on the energy plant to be put up at the dumpsite.
“The city must benefit from the project since the garbage materials to be used came from the city dumpsite. Every 50 metric tons of garbage used and converted will produce one-megawatt energy,” Gallo said.
Iloilo City is producing some 300 metric tons of garbage daily, including garbage from the towns of Oton and Pavia as members of the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Development Council.
Gallo said that with the tonnage of garbage at the Calajunan dumpsite, there could be some six megawatts of energy to be generated from the project if materialized. The produced energy could augment the energy supply of the city. (LCP) source
