After receiving service contracts from the Department of Energy, Hydrotec Renewables Inc. has targeted to complete all of its hydropower projects in the Marikina area by 2016, with the combined investment cost for the all the plants pegged at up to P2.7 billion.
In a statement, Hydrotec said that it was awarded eight renewable service contracts including certificates of registration from the Energy department for its Small Hydro Power Projects along Marikina river and its tributaries.
Hydrotec said that the hydro projects, which will have total investments estimated at P2.3 billion to P2.7 billion, will have a combined installed capacity of 25 megawatts (MW) to 30 MW.
The company is building mini hydro projects in Rodriguez City (Sitio Wawa, San Isidro and San Jose), San Mateo City (San Mateo), Marikina City (Tumana and Nangka 4) and Antipolo City (Hinulugang Taktak and Nangka 1).
According to Hydrotec, it targets to complete all eight hydro projects by 2016, specifying that several hydroelectric plants can be constructed simultaneously.
Site preparation works for construction at three sites are already ongoing. Depending on weather conditions, the construction period of a hydro power plant could span from six to eight months.
“The electro-mechanical equipment like hydro turbines, generators, control boards, hydrological equipment will be manufactured in Germany, which guarantees us, highest efficiency and a lifetime of over 50 years,” Hannes Mueller, Hydrotec director, said.
Mueller said a real time, satellite connected weather forecast system will be installed at each of Hydrotec’s hydro power plants.
He said the satellite weather forecast system will improve significantly the efficiency and operation of each hydro power plant by giving a precise, 72-hour forecast about any meteorological event like storms, typhoons, direction and speed of wind and clouds, amount of rainfall, among others.
“All data will be available at no costs for the hosting LGUs [local government units] and will improve any weather forecast, warning from floods, storms, heavy rainfalls or typhoons,” he said. source
