ELECTRIC cooperatives in Yolanda-stricken areas in the Visayas are enjoined to apply for rehabilitation funds at the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
President Benigno Aquino III ordered the release of P3.9 billion rehabilitation funds for the power cooperatives.
Panay Island electric cooperatives affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda are Iloilo Electric Cooperative III (Ileco III) based in northern Iloilo; Iloilo Electric Cooperative II (Ileco II) based in Pototan, Iloilo; Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) based in Panitan, Capiz; Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) based in Kalibo, Aklan; and Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco).
Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla said the electric coops will have to apply for funding under the Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Program subsidy for the repair, restoration, replacement and rehabilitation works on their distribution lines, accessories, facilities and structures damaged by Yolanda based on a force majeure event capital expenditure project.
Petilla said power rehabilitation works in affected Panay areas is faster than in his hometown in Tacloban, Leyte. He said he expected that all power restoration in Panay be completed by March 31. (LCP) source
