A POWER firm has extended at least P2.7-million assistance to families displaced by the standoff in September 2013 by way of electrification projects.
Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) Plant Manager Jose Marie Torrejon said they initiated the project to help the local government “Build Back Better” Zamboanga City.
Torrejon said the implementation of the project forms part of WMPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Torrejon said that P1.5 million of the P2.7 million electrification projects was implemented at the resettlement site in the village of Tulungatung, 17 kilometers west of this city.
The other electrification project costing P1.2 million was implemented in the village of Taluksangay, 19 kilometers east of this city, said Torrejon.
He said the projects include the installation of transmission lines and service drops at the two resettlement sites.
He said the implementation of the projects was initiated by the head office of the WMPC and the San Ramon Power Incorporated (SRPI).
“Since we are a power company, our management decided to provide the power facilities to the bunkhouses (in the two places),” he said.
The WMPC and SRPI are subsidiaries of the Alcantara-led Conal Holdings Corporation.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Conal Holdings, Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, and barangay officials prior to the implementation of the projects.
The projects have been completed and it will be the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative that will energize the bunkhouses in the two villages. (Bong Garcia) source
