Korea firm bags Malaya Thermal Power
Plant contract !-- -- Danessa Rivera (The Philippine Star) - January 23, 2019 -
12:00amMANILA, Philippines A Korean firm bagged the operations and maintenance
(OandM) contract for the 650-megawatt (MW) Malaya Thermal Power Plant (TPP). In
a statement, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp.
(PSALM) said its board awarded the
2019 service contract for the operation and maintenance of the Malaya TPP to
Soosan ENS Co., Ltd.
The term of the contract shall be
for a period of one year, or until the plant's privatization. With an approved
budget of P213 million, Soosan ENS was declared the lowest compliant bidder
with its P205.73 million offer, following its post-qualification.
PSALM issued the notice of award to
Soosan ENS after it passed all eligibility and technical assessment. Part of
the responsibilities under the service contract include the day-to-day upkeep,
management and maintenance or repair of the power plant and its equipment.
Located in Pililia, the Malaya TPP
consists of a 300-MW unit with a once-through type boiler and a 350-MW unit
fitted with a conventional boiler. It was last rehabilitated in 1995 by Korea
Electric Power Corp.
under a 15-year rehabilitate-operate-manage-maintain
agreement. The Malaya power plant was designated as a must run unit (MRU) by
the Department of Energy (DOE) to address supply deficiency when operating
power plants in the grid suddenly bog down or become unavailable.
It will operate as an MRU until the
DOE finalizes its privatization schedule.
