The Department of Energy will hold the Green Energy Auction program in June 2021, a move that will further increase renewable energy use in the country, an executive said Tuesday.
“The green energy auction committee has actually convened two weeks ago, the first meeting of the committee to set out the work plan for the first auction scheduled by June 2021,” National Renewable Energy Board chairman Monalisa Dimalanta said during the webinar on “Enabling the Philippine Energy Transition: Opportunities for Grid Enhancement and New Technologies.”
The green energy auction refers to the competitive process for procurement of RE supply.
Dimalanta said the capacity to be auctioned is still being verified because the distribution utilities had to adjust their projections. She said Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi was open to increasing the initial capacity offered for the auction.
“Hoping to finalize by yearend or January 2021,” Dimalanta said.
