Listed Aboitiz Power Corp. will continue to bid for the remaining assets of National Power Corp., an official said Friday.
Aboitiz Power president Erramon Aboitiz told reporters the company had taken interest in managing the contracted output of the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan hydro projects in Laguna.
The CBK hydro projects consist of the 22.6-megawatt Caliraya in Lumban, 20.8-MW Botocan in Majayjay and the 684.6-MW Kalayaan I and II in Kalayaan, Laguna. J-Power and Sumitomo Corp. of Japan operate the CBK power plants.
“We’re interested in the hydros of Napocor whether it be CBK, or the ones in Mindanao, [including] Agus if they sell it,” Aboitiz said.
The Agus hydro complex is composed of six plants with a combined capacity of more than 700 MW. Agus I in Marawi City can generate 80 MW; Agus II, Lanao del Sur, 180 MW; Agus IV in Lanao del Norte, 158.1 MW; and Agus V, VI and VII at 55 MW, 200 MW and 54 MW, all in Iligan City.
The Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 states that the Agus hydro power plants, along with the Pulangi hydro facilities, may be privatized not earlier than 10 years from the passage of the law.
Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras earlier said he was not pushing for the sale of the Agus-Pulangi hydro complex.
“I have already informed PSALM that we would like to recommend that we do not sell Agus and Pulangi hydro plants. The correct statement is, it’s not yet for sale, we do not want to sell it yet,” Almendras said.
Aboitiz, meanwhile, said the company was still interested in the contracted capacities of the 559-MW Unified Leyte geothermal capacities.
Aboitiz has a renewable energy portfolio that includes geothermal and hydroelectric power plants across the country. The company has also put up several coal facilities.
