Business forum to focus on power quality

MANILA, Philippines - A business forum that will focus on power quality will be convened by the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) at 8 a.m. Aug. 11, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City.
Armando R. Diaz, national president of IIEE, said the forum “is part of a nationwide campaign to spread awareness on power quality.”
The International Copper Association South East Asia Ltd. (ICASEA), a non-profit association that promotes the efficient use of copper, has tapped IIEE to lead a public-private partnership and coordinate country activities for the Asia Power Quality Initiative (APQI).
Expected to attend the forum are executives and electrical engineers of key manufacturing industries and enterprises, among them San Miguel Corp., Nestle Philippines, Coca Cola Philippines, Alaska Milk Corp., Wyeth Philippines, Universal Rubina Corp., RFM Corp., Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, On Semiconductor Phils., and Aichi Forging Phils.
Diaz said the objectives of the APQI program are:
1) To conduct benchmarking survey to understand current power quality (PQ) situation in the Philippines and develop appropriate strategies and actions; 2) To raise awareness on the economic, financial and social impacts of PQ isues on stakeholders. impact (economic, social, national) of PQ to stockholders in the Philippines; 3) To establish a national framework for developing technical knowledge center and the dissemination of technical information and solutions to power quality; and 4) To assist in the development of PQ standards in the Philippines based on international best practices.
The IIEE is the only professional organization of Filipino licensed electrical practitioners accredited by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). It is composed of over 35,000 members belonging to 17 chapters nationwide and eight abroad.
