ILOILO CITY -- Two more bodies have reportedly been found at the open pit mine of Semirara Mining Corp., bringing the death toll to seven.

But this has yet to be confirmed, said Broderick Train, action officer of the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center.

As of Friday afternoon, official PDRRMC tally still showed that five died from the landslide that hit Semirara’s Panian pit on Wednesday night. The mine site is located on Semirara Island in Caluya, Antique.

Mr. Train said Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla and Undersecretary Ramon Allan V. Oca have arrived at the site while Labor Secretary Rosalinda d. Baldoz was on her way to the island on Friday.

PDRRMC personnel are scheduled to go to the island this weekend, Mr. Train added.

Semirara has declared the site of the landslide a danger zone and reportedly refused entry to some local government and police officials. The company has taken charge of the search and rescue operations using their own heavy equipment.

Some 13 workers were at the site when the landslide occurred at around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday. Five bodies have been retrieved based on official data while three have been rescued and brought to hospitals for treatment.

Semirara ceased operations on Thursday to ensure the safety of its other workers.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council earlier identified the five fatalities as Abner Lim, Elmer Equiza, Anthony Siblet, Joven Hocate and George Bragat.

Those who have been rescued were identified as Marjun Catoto, Adrian Celmar and Leonardo Sojor.

Still missing based on official tally were foreman Leovigildo Porras, Jan Riel Planca, Randy Tamparong, Junjie Gomez and Richard Padernilla. -- Francis Allan L. Angelo   source
