 (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE), in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Small Scale Hydropower Inc. (PASSHydro), will present the much-anticipated roadmap for the hydropower industry today at the opening ceremonies of the two-day Philippine Hydropower Summit in Makati.
The event aims to put the spotlight on current hydropower issues, particularly how to address the challenges of producing indigenous source of fuel in ways that would not harm the environment.
The summit also hopes to discuss opportunities aimed at providing awareness on the state of Philippine hydropower developments, innovative engineering designs, trends and emerging related technologies, lessons as well as best practices towards sustainable hydropower development.
Furthermore, PASSHydro president and Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Inc (Suweco) president Jose Silvestre M. Natividad said the summit would also provide the venue for networking opportunities towards establishing long term partnership between government regulators, developers, financing institutions and technology suppliers.
“We look forward to the presentation of the DOE on the roadmap for the hydropower development in the country and together with the other stakeholders we will plan on how best we can address the challenges of producing clean and indigenous source of fuel such as hydro,” Silvestre said.
PASSHydro is a group of hydropower developers, suppliers and consultants formed in February 1998.  It serves as the institutional and implementing partner of the government for the promotion and utilization of the country’s water resources for small-scale hydropower generation as a sustainable and reliable source of clean energy for every Filipino.
