Transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said it will put up a new 230-kilovolt line from San Esteban, Ilocos Sur to Laoag, Ilocos Norte to support the construction of wind projects in the area.

National Grid said the project was expected to cost P456 million.
The Energy Regulatory Commission approved in 2010 National Grid’s San Esteban-Laoag 230 kV transmission project, which aims to accommodate the installation of the connection facility for wind projects such as the  86-megawatt wind project of Energy Development Corp. and 82-MW wind project of Northern Luzon UPC Asia Corp.
The first stage of the San Esteban-Laoag transmission project, estimated to cost P456 million, involves the construction of 500 meters of 115 kV  transmission line and expansion/reconfiguration of the existing Laoag substation and the  installation of control and protection equipment at Laoag, Currimao, Bantay and San  Esteban substations.
The second stage involves the construction of a double-circuit line from San Esteban to Laoag substation and the construction of new Laoag 230 kV substation.
There is currently one circuit supplying Bantay (from San Esteban), Currimao (from Bantay) and Laoag (from Currimao) and any outage of line between these stations would result in interruption of power at the receiving stations.   source
