TRANS-ASIA Oil and Energy Development Corp. has received the notice of award as one of the independent power producer administrators (IPPAs) of the Unified Leyte geothermal power plants’ (ULGPP) contracted capacities, according to its disclosure yesterday.

“Trans-Asia received and accepted the notice of award from the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) of 40 strips of energy of the ULGPP,” the disclosure read.

Last Monday, Aboitiz Energy Solutions, Inc. and Vivant Energy Corp. also got notices of award for 40-megawatt (MW) and 17-MW capacities, respectively.

These firms had been identified as three of the seven winning bidders in the IPPA auction conducted by PSALM for the ULGPP in November last year.

The ULGPP complex -- which straddles Ormoc City and municipality of Kananga -- is composed of the 125-MW Upper Mahiao plant; 232.5-MW Malitbog plant; 180-MW Mahanagdong plant; and 51-MW optimization plants.

As IPPAs, winners will manage the contracted output of the power facility which could be traded at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

PSALM auctioned off ULGPP contracted capacity in “strips” and “bulk,” whereby the state-run firm offered a total of 200 MW for “strips” of energy and the remaining capacity for the bulk energy.

The other winning bidders for the strips of energy were: FDC Utilities, Inc. for 40 MW; Unified Leyte Geothermal Energy Inc. (ULGEI) for 40 MW; Good Friends Hydro Resources Corp. for 20 MW; and Waterfront Mactan Casino Hotel, Inc. for 3 MW.

PSALM intends to conduct another bidding for the IPPA of the remaining contracted capacity of the plant in September next year. -- Claire-Ann Marie C. Feliciano   source
