VISAYAS will receive additional 83 megawatts (MW) with the synchronization of a new power plant to the grid, the Department of Energy (DOE) said Tuesday.

The Global Business Power Corporation’s (GBPC) Toledo Power Company recently announced the connection of its power plant project to the grid in Toledo City, Cebu.

Visayas Field Office (VFO) Director Antonio Labios said the 83-MW power project made an earlier synchronization due to the efficient execution of the preliminary workings in the plant. The synchronization was originally set on October 2014.

“The new power capacity addition of GBPC will provide a signal to investors for future investment directions as more opportunities await for them because the government, in partnership with the private sector, is continuously paving the way towards a better investment environment,” Labios said.

The additional capacity will directly benefit industrial power consumers in Cebu, specifically in the southern portion of the province and the rest of the Visayas, he added. (SDR/Sunnex) source
